Iko Uwais (born Qorny Uwaisis) is an Indonesian actor, stuntman, fight choreographer, and martial artist. He portrays Kai Jin in Netflix's Wu Assassins and Fistful of Vengeance.[1]
Biography[]
Uwais was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, and is the son of Maisyaroh and Mustapha Kamaluddin. His grandfather, H. Achmad Bunawar, was a silat master and founded a silat school.
Uwais worked as an operational driver in Indonesia, where he was found by Gareth Evans, who was filming a documentary about Silat, and thanks to Uwais' charisma and great camera presence, Evans decides to hire him in his first movie, Merantau. In 2011, Evans hired Uwais to play the main character in the 2011 film The Raid, which was released to highly positive reviews, with critics hailing it as one of the best action movies of all time. Evans also hired Uwais to reprise his role in The Raid 2, which was similarly released to positive reviews that launched Uwais to fame. His other credits include notable projects such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Headshot, Beyond Skyline, Mile 22, and The Night Comes for Us.
In 2012, Uwais married Audy Item in Jakarta, with whom he has two kids.
